Job Description

The role

The postholder will use their archival skills, knowledge and experience to deliver day-to-day collections management tasks and engagement activities across the full range of resources held in Special Collections. Embracing the digital, they will ensure collections are discoverable and accessible by applying the highest standards of collection care and customer service. The postholder will work closely with colleagues in their team and across the wider Library Service.

What will you be doing?

  • You will undertake a full range of collections management activities, including appraisal, preservation, cataloguing and identification of material for digitisation and digital preservation
  • You will provide professional advice to researchers, students and stakeholders interested in Special Collections material
  • You will work with volunteers, colleagues and external groups on public engagement activities using archival material
  • You will ensure professional standards and ethics are complied with throughout all processes, including complying with information and rights legislation and taking account of issues around sensitive material

You should apply if

  • You are a qualified archivist, are close to completing an archives qualification or have experience equivalent to a professional archives qualification
  • You have demonstrable understanding and experience of principles and procedures relating to archival cataloguing, collections management, relevant legislative frameworks and digital preservation
  • You are excited by the prospect of making archives accessible to new audiences through a range of outreach and engagement activities
  • You have an understanding of the complexities which can exist within archive collections, and an ability to demonstrate care and sensitivity to creators, owners and users of the material and associated finding aids
  • You have excellent time management and prioritisation skills
