Job Description

Job Description

Spend your summer immersed in nature at Reflection Riding’s Summer Camp! We are seeking enthusiastic, caring, and playful camp counselors who are excited to spend their days outside on our 300-acre campus, working closely with campers ages 5–13 in all kinds of summer weather.

Camp counselors are hands-on with kids all day long. You will play games, explore trails, splash in creeks, build forts, and support campers as they learn, grow, and connect with the natural world. Counselors serve as positive role models by actively participating in every activity and helping create a safe, engaging, and fun environment for all campers. This is a physically active role that takes place outdoors throughout the summer, including in hot and humid conditions.

Our camp is grounded in the philosophy of nature play and self-exploration, with counselors acting as facilitators who encourage curiosity, creativity, and confidence. A successful counselor brings a genuine passion for working with children and a belief in the value of giving kids the opportunity to play outside, explore freely, and build meaningful connections with nature.

Being a Summer Camp Counselor at Reflection Riding is a fun, rewarding, and impactful experience that can make a lasting difference in a child’s life. If you love working with kids, enjoy being outside, and thrive in an active, nature-based setting, we’d love to have you on our team. Learn more about Reflection Riding Summer Camp here.

Primary Duties

● Supervise groups of children ages 5–13 in an outdoor setting throughout the day, in a variety of summer conditions including heat, humidity, mud, and rain

● Lead and actively participate in a variety of outdoor, nature-based activities using foundational naturalist skills, including hikes, animal ambassador experiences, science exploration, observation, and guided nature play

● Foster a positive, inclusive, and nurturing camp environment where all campers feel safe, supported, and engaged

● Maintain high standards of health and safety for campers and staff by assessing sites for potential hazards, monitoring weather conditions, and ensuring campers stay hydrated, cool, and well cared for

● Assist with daily setup, preparation, and cleanup of camp activities and shared spaces

● Provide basic first aid and CPR as needed; training and certification are provided

Job Requirements

● Enjoy spending the entire day outside with children in a variety of summer conditions, and bring an enthusiastic, kind, and positive attitude to your work ● Be at least 18 years old

● Have experience working with children and a genuine passion for teaching, mentoring, and supporting young people, especially younger age groups that make up a large portion of our campers

● Be a reliable team player who is willing to actively participate in all aspects of camp life and daily operations

Training and Certifications

All summer camp staff are required to attend pre-season training from May 25–29, 2026. This training prepares counselors for the camp season and builds a shared understanding of Reflection Riding’s philosophy, safety expectations, and approach to nature-based programming.

Summer Camp Counselors are expected to commit to the full summer of programming, including training and all scheduled camp weeks, to ensure consistency and a high-quality experience for campers.

Counselors must complete all required training prior to the start of camp, including First Aid and CPR certification. Training and certification are provided as part of summer staff preparation.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The physical demands and work environment described here reflect the conditions required to successfully perform the essential functions of this summer position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions.

This is a highly active, outdoor summer position. Employees will spend the majority of each day outside supervising and engaging with groups of children and may walk up to 5 miles per day across varied terrain. The role requires sustained focus and energy throughout the day while actively interacting with campers. Counselors must be able to lift and carry supplies weighing up to 20 pounds and demonstrate good physical stamina and agility.

Because this position takes place outdoors during the summer months, employees must be able to work in hot, humid, and occasionally rainy conditions and maintain a high level of performance in changing weather. The work environment includes exposure to common outdoor allergens, insects such as mosquitoes, wasps, and yellow jackets, and other natural elements. Camp programming takes place rain or shine, and staff are expected to be prepared to work comfortably and safely in these conditions.
