Job Title: Procurement Category Manager (Remote - California Based)
Employment Type: Contract (5 Months)
Compensation: $75–$85 per hour
Duration: August 2025 – January 2026
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Procurement Category Manager for a 5-month assignment through the end of January 2026. This is a fully remote position open to candidates located in California. You will be responsible for developing sourcing strategies, negotiating contracts, and managing supplier relationships across a broad range of categories including technology, facilities, HR, consulting, accounting, and other global services.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Sourcing
- Develop global sourcing strategies across multiple categories.
- Lead RFP/RFQ processes and supplier selection using cross-functional teams.
- Negotiate master agreements, SOWs, and change orders, balancing legal, financial, and business needs.
- Conduct cost analyses, benchmark pricing, and advise business units on ROI and market trends.
- Provide category-specific contract expertise and sourcing recommendations.
- Evaluate and challenge single-source requests to ensure competitiveness.
Category Management
- Develop and implement category strategies that align with company goals.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for assigned categories.
- Educate stakeholders on procurement strategy, policy, and market best practices.
- Lead regular strategy sessions with internal clients.
Supplier Management
- Oversee supplier performance and manage risk.
- Resolve contract disputes and performance issues.
- Conduct and lead supplier reviews, improvement initiatives, and ad-hoc reporting.
Contract Management
- Ensure contract terms reflect negotiated pricing and deliverables.
- Standardize contract lifecycle and sourcing processes.
- Support contract execution and retention through electronic signature tools.
- Provide regular reporting and issue escalation as needed.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree with 7+ years of experience in category management or strategic sourcing.
- Strong negotiation, vendor management, and contract formulation skills.
- Expertise in sourcing tools (e.g., COUPA).
- Excellent analytical, communication, and project management capabilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Preferred:
- MBA or professional certifications such as Certified Purchasing Manager.
- Experience supporting high-growth, fast-paced environments or public companies.
- Prior exposure to strategic sourcing across multiple spend categories.
- Familiarity with labor law, IP risk, and contract compliance processes.
Additional Details
- This role requires the ability to work independently and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Candidates should be comfortable interfacing with C-level stakeholders and presenting performance metrics and strategy recommendations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are essential.
