Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to oversee and manage the financial operations of our multi-department automotive dealership. The ideal candidate will be a strong business partner, providing leadership in financial planning, budgeting, accounting, and risk management to drive profitability and long-term growth. This role is ideal for a controller in the automotive industry looking to grow into a CFO role. About Ilderton Automotive: Ilderton Automotive is a proud, family-owned dealership based in High Point, North Carolina, with nearly a century of service to our community. Founded 99 years ago, the Ilderton family has built a legacy of trust, customer service, and automotive expertise. We are an authorized Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, and Ram dealer, offering a wide selection of new and pre-owned vehicles, expert maintenance, and personalized financing options. In addition to our main dealership, we operate four Ilderton Conversion Company mobility stores, specializing in the sale, customization, and service of handicap-accessible vans. Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic financial direction and support to ownership and senior leadership.
  • Lead the development and execution of financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Partner with department managers to identify opportunities to improve operational and financial performance.
  • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, IRS regulations, and dealership-specific accounting practices (NADA guidelines).
  • Oversee the general ledger, account reconciliations, and financial reporting functions.
  • Direct the annual budgeting process across all departments (sales, service, parts, F&I, self-insured medical plan, etc.).
  • Analyze and report on financial performance against budget and benchmarks.
  • Monitor cash flow, expenses, and capital expenditures.
  • Manage, develop and maintain banking, independent CPA and insurance relationships.
  • Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local tax and financial regulations.
  • Maintain appropriate insurance coverage and risk management strategies.
  • Collaborate with HR on compliance and audit readiness.
  • Lead and develop the accounting/finance team, including Controllers, Office Managers and clerical staff.
  • Drive a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role, preferably in the automotive industry.
  • Strong technical knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and dealership operations.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Dealertrack) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret financial data, identify trends, and communicate insights effectively.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and interact with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.
