Job Description

Summary:

The Assistant Director (AD) is a key member of the creative team, responsible for many aspects of the production. The AD's key responsibilities include communicating the director's vision, assisting with creative choices, maintaining script and rehearsal schedules and ensuring the artistic and logistical aspects of the production run smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Logistics and Administration: Handle administrative tasks such as scheduling meetings, organizing props, and assisting with casting.

  • Problem-Solving: Help identify and solve issues that arise during rehearsals and technical periods, contributing to a smooth production process.

  • Creative Support: Provide creative assistance by reading for absent actors, offering creative input, or helping to research specific aspects of the production.

  • Administrative Support: Manage rehearsal schedules, maintain updated scripts, and coordinate with the stage manager.

  • Note-taking: Take detailed notes for the director during run-throughs and technical rehearsals, documenting instructions for actors and the creative team.

  • Rehearsal Management: Run rehearsals, including acting, music, or dance sessions, especially when the director or specific actors are absent.

  • Participate in production meetings and maintain clear and consistent communication with the creative team.

  • Team Communications: Communicate on behalf of the director, relaying information and instructions to the entire production team throughout email or other communication.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Theater, or equivalent professional experience a plus.

  • People Skills: Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire and motivate others.

  • Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to work collaboratively under time pressure.

  • Flexible schedule for after school and evening rehearsals and performances
