Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Marine Electrician to join our team at B&D Contracting, Inc. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and equipment on various types of vessels, ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations. This role requires working in a fast-paced shipyard environment, adhering to strict safety protocols, and utilizing personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical systems, including wiring, circuits, lighting, and control systems on ships and marine vessels.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals to ensure accurate installations and repairs.
- Perform preventive maintenance on electrical systems to ensure optimal performance and compliance with marine regulations.
- Test electrical systems and equipment using diagnostic tools to identify and resolve issues.
- Collaborate with other trades, such as welders and pipefitters, to complete projects efficiently.
- Ensure all work complies with industry standards, including ABS (American Bureau of Shipping), USCG (U.S. Coast Guard), and OSHA regulations.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to shipyard safety and housekeeping standards.
- Document work performed, including maintenance logs and inspection reports.
- Participate in safety training and drills as required.
Qualifications and Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a recognized electrical apprenticeship program or relevant trade certification preferred.
- Minimum of [3] years of experience as an electrician, with at least [1] years in marine or industrial environments (shipyard experience preferred).
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.
- Familiarity with marine industry standards and regulations (e.g., ABS, USCG, IEEE).
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and electrical testing equipment (e.g., multimeters, meggers).
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in various weather conditions.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Safety Requirements:
- Must provide and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times, including:
- Hard hat
- Steel-toe boots
- Safety glasses
- Other PPE as required (e.g., gloves, hearing protection, high-visibility clothing, etc.).
- Strict adherence to shipyard safety protocols and OSHA regulations.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and other medicals
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent standing, bending, climbing, and working in confined spaces.
- Comfortable working on ladders, scaffolding, and at heights.
Work Environment:
- Work is performed in a shipyard setting, both indoors and outdoors, in all weather conditions.
- Exposure to loud noises, dust, and other environmental factors typical of a shipyard.
- Shift work, overtime, and occasional weekend work may be required.
